File Types
We only accept Adobe PDF, EPS, JPEG and TIFF.
We do not accept the following formats:
Microsoft Word, Publisher, Powerpoint or Excel. Any ads sent in these formats will be assessed a $50 creative services charge for typesetting (see Rates and Color).
Color
Color advertisements should be sent in the CMYK color format. Spot color advertisements should contain only black and one other color. Spot color ads sent with multiple colors will be charged the full color rate or may be printed in black and white. (For more information, see Rates and Color.)
Sizing Your Ad
Measure your advertisement as columns wide by inches tall. See the size charts to the right for common broadsheet and tabloid sizes.

Packaging Your Ad
Embed all fonts, save graphics at 300 dpi/ppi and send all pictures as either a TIFF or JPEG file.
If The Hatchet is to create the ad for you, you may send the text as a Word document or in an email (to ads@gwhatchet.com). Graphics in Word documents or graphics taken from Web sites cannot be used. Our staff would be happy to assist

A full page in The Hatchet's broadsheet format is 6 columns wide by 21 inches tall.
- 1 column = 1.67 inches or 10 picas
- 2 columns = 3.46 inches or 20.8 picas
- 3 columns = 5.25 inches or 31.5 picas
- 4 columns = 7.05 inches or 42.3 picas
- 5 columns = 8.84 inches or 53 picas
- 6 columns = 10.63 inches or 63.8 picas

Specifications for Web Ads
We accept the JPEG, GIF and PNG file formats, including animated GIF files.
We also accept the Adobe SWF (i.e. Adobe Flash) format, with clickTAG support, for animated or interactive advertisements.
Web advertisements are measured in pixels, width by height. We support two ad sizes, both Interactive Advertising Bureau standards:
- Square: 300 × 250 pixels (IAB Square Pop-Up)
- Banner: 728 × 90 pixels (Horizontal Banner at top of page)
The IAB maximum recommended file size for square and banner advertisements are 40 KB and 30 KB, respectively.
